Location chosen for the Rite of Passage adventure

We’ve finally handed over the cash and committed to the location for my eldest son’s coming-of-age hike, as mentioned in my earlier post.

The Mercantour National Park in France, just north of Nice. We’re super stoked by the terrain on offer, and with a few months to go, counting on warmer weather than we’re having here in the UK at the moment.

There are loads of hikes on this site, with most longer ones including stopovers at the various refuges. We prefer to bivouac (permissable between 7pm and 7am), but will keep the refuge option open if the weather gets truly foul. Maybe a good location for the last night, before we fly home? At least we’d be able to shower, so as to keep our fellow passengers happy :D

By finalising this most important detail, my son has become rather excited that the event is actually going to happen, asking me about gear and reading/rereading his book in preparation. All good!

:)

The park. We’ll be sleeping right over therrrrrre ;)
